Principal vs Interest
Even though your EMI amount stays fixed every month, the split between principal and interest inside that payment changes over time. This is because interest is charged on the outstanding balance — and that balance is highest at the very start of the loan.
In the early months, a large share of your EMI goes toward interest and only a small share reduces the principal. As the outstanding balance shrinks month by month, the interest portion decreases and the principal portion grows — even though the total EMI doesn't change.
This is why paying off a loan early saves more interest than the "average" monthly interest might suggest — early payments are disproportionately interest-heavy, so reducing the principal sooner cuts more future interest than doing so later in the tenure.
